The UW-Whitewater Greek Community consists of three councils, which govern the 21 fraternities and sororities on campus. These councils serve as governing bodies for each chapter. The Interfraternity Council, the Panhellenic Council, and the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Each of these councils play a vital role in the UW-Whitewater Greek Community.
The Interfraternity Council (IFC) is a branch of the North American Interfraternity Conference. The national organization encompasses 74 fraternities, including NPHC, NALFO, and other culturally based council organizations. At UW-Whitewater, IFC represents local and national fraternities. The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) is an umbrella organization for historically African-American fraternities and sororities, also referenced as the “Divine Nine”. At UW-Whitewater 6 of the 9 NPHC organizations have an established chapter. Those are:
The Panhellenic Council (PHC) is a branch of the National Panhellenic Conference, which is an umbrella organization for 26 sororities. At UW-Whitewater, the Panhellenic Council not only represents NPC sororities, but also sororities of a variety of backgrounds. From culturally based to local to national, UW-Whitewater PHC helps young women in college develop personal and professional skills through a variety of programming.
